Year 1

Term 1 Cirriculum Letter

Term 2 Cirriculum Letter

Yesterday Year 1 used magic chalk to draw pictures of Smarties. To our astonishment real life Smarties appeared! We then thought about what else we could draw and we chose dogs. We wished they would come alive by holding hands and closing our eyes. To our surprise, two real life dogs appeared! It was magic!

Year 1 have been exploring Dinosaurs in their topic this term! We had a shock when we discovered a dinosaur egg had hatched in our classroom, and so we went into our paleontology lab to research different dinosaur fossils to see if we could work out what dinosaur it might have been!

Year 1 have had a very exciting time over the last week.

Some children were chosen to visit Farrow Court to read and chat with the residents. It was such a rewarding afternoon for all involved.

We have been learning about space this term, and this week we have been focussing on astronauts and rockets! We were even visited by the Astrodome to learn about space travel!

Some of the children learned how to play Twinkle Twinkle on the xylophone and were able to take them home to play to their parents.

What an amazing week!

Term 5

Doubling

In Maths, Year 1 have been looking at doubling. We used mirrors to help us understand that when we double we add the number to itself. We had lots of fun doubling different numbers!

Term 2

'Year 1 have been invaded by aliens this term!  A spaceship crash landed in our classroom and made a terrible mess!

We have had great fun creating our own aliens, spaceships and rockets. We visited the astrodome, learned about the planets in our Solar System and found out about famous astronauts.'

Term 1

Year 1 have been very busy this week learning about the story of Hansel and Gretel! On Monday, we explored our school’s field and trees and thought about the different things that Hansel and Gretel may have seen in the woods. We have used our problem solving skills to construct a sweetie house using cocktail sticks and marshmallows, Lego, and even biscuits and sweets! We have been retelling the story of Hansel and Gretel in both our role-play areas and on our outside stage - our favourite part is when Gretel pushed the old woman in the oven!
