History

The intent of our history curriculum at Beaver Green Primary School is to deliver a high quality curriculum which inspires curiosity and fascination about Britain’s past and of the wider world. Our curriculum will increase and develop the children’s skills in historical concepts, knowledge and attitudes, including empathy. There will be opportunities for children to develop their understanding of how the past has influenced the present. The children will develop and use their skills in enquiry, analysis, evaluation, and argument.  The children will develop their interest in the past, arousing their curiosity and motivation to learn leading to developing a sense of identity.

Together with the Primary Knowledge Curriculum we have identified the key knowledge and skills of each topic to be studied and consideration has been given to ensure progression across History throughout each year group and across the school.

Through the teaching of history, we endeavour to teach children to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time. We want children to enjoy and love learning about history by gaining this knowledge and skills, not just through experiences in the classroom, but also with the use of fieldwork and educational visits.
