EYFS- Early Years Foundation Stage

At Beaver Green Primary school, it is our vision that all children in our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS): feel as though they belong, are their own individual, are communicative, are happy, are inquisitive and are independent.

We consider every child to be on a unique learning journey and it is important for us to nurture each of their individual talents. Children learn across both classrooms and a large outdoor area, through topics which are planned by the teachers, taking into account the children’s interests.  Our provision allows our children to be immersed in play, which is adapted depending on the needs of the children.  Where possible learning opportunities are linked to real life experiences, so children are immersed in the topic.  Our provision encourages children to problem-solve and show resilience, take risks, initiate ideas and be creative whilst thinking critically. 

 

We pride ourselves on building positive relationships between all staff in our school and our families, to ensure the transition to starting school is positive.  We use the online observation tool, Tapestry.  Parents are able to sign up and access this from home, giving them the option to comment on and contribute to their child’s learning journal.

At Beaver Green we plan our learning in Foundation Stage around the EYFS curriculum as follows:

The prime areas of learning:

The specific areas of learning:

• literacy

• mathematics

• understanding the world

• expressive arts and design

 

Characteristics of effective learning:

• playing and exploring

• active learning

• creating and thinking critically

At the end of Reception we assess all of the children against the Early Learning Goals.
