Physical Education
At Beaver Green Primary School, we strive to create a culture which aims to inspire an active generation to enjoy PE, encourage each other and achieve. We provide a safe and supportive environment for children to flourish in a range of different physical activities which is essential in supporting their physical, emotional, spiritual, social and moral development.
At Beaver Green, our PE lessons are taught by a dedicated Sports Coach, who delivers a dynamic, varied and stimulating program. We have teamed up with Real PE to ensure the breadth of study, teaching and learning and coherent skill progression for our children is embedded from Early Years through to Year 6. This ensures all children progress physically through an inspirational, unique and fully inclusive PE curriculum. Real PE supports primary schools to deliver an outstanding PE Curriculum. We believe that every child has the right to develop a positive relationship with physical activity for life. Real PE lessons have a child-centred approach to include, challenge and support for every child. Our P.E lessons will help to develop physical literacy, knowledge, emotional and thinking skills for P.E. sport and their lives.
The aim of Physical Education is to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles. Children are taught to observe and produce the conventions of fair play, honest competition and good sporting behaviour as individual participants, team members and spectators. Thus embedding life-long values such as co-operation, collaboration and equity of play. We strive to give all children the opportunity to enjoy being physically active, maintain a healthy lifestyle to increase their self-esteem.
We have three key principles which we strive for all our children to achieve.
-
All children to participate in a sporting competition throughout the year
-
All children leave school able to be safe in the water and to be able to swim 25 metres
-
All children leave school being able to ride a bike
Alongside specialist workshops, we also offer a variety of sports clubs, including those run by external coaches. Not only does this enhance the provision available, but it also enables us to work closely with the local community. Our children have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sporting competitions (as part of the School Sport Partnership and our local connections). We open up competitions to all children, regardless of their skill level.
Above all we endeavour to ensure that children have fun and have a foundation for lifelong physical activity, leaving primary school as physically active individuals.
Swimming
Our children enjoy swimming lessons at The Stour Centre. Fully qualified instructors support children to gain the knowledge and skills they need to remain safe in and around water.
Our aim is to enable every child to swim at least 25 metres by the time they reach Year 6.
